Israeli Strikes Kill 5 in Gaza City — Municipal Park and Tel al-Hawa Vehicle Strike
On Monday, August 31, 2026, Israeli airstrikes killed at least five Palestinians in two separate incidents in Gaza City. The first strike hit a crowd near the municipal public park, an area packed with displaced families, killing two people and wounding several others. A second strike later the same day hit a vehicle in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of western Gaza City, killing at least three more people. The Israeli military said both strikes targeted Hamas militants but gave no further details. Gaza health officials said more than 1,300 Palestinians have now been killed since the October 2025 ceasefire took effect, against roughly four Israeli soldiers over the same period. A relative of one of the victims, Amjad Abu Abdo, said: 'There is no ceasefire. There is not one good day in Gaza since October 7 [2023]. I swear, we do not sleep from the sound of drones. You sleep scared of being hit.'
