Report: Over 600 Political Prisoners Held in Dire Conditions at Ahvaz's Sheiban Prison

| Iran History

A human rights report found more than 600 political and ideological prisoners held at Sheiban Central Prison in Ahvaz, Khuzestan province, following mass arrests in the wake of the war. The facility's total population has reportedly surged past 4,000 — more than double its official 2,000-person capacity. Most new detainees are young men aged 18-25 who monitors say face summary, video-conferenced mass trials, denial of independent legal counsel, and sentences ranging from lengthy prison terms to death. Families say they have been denied information on charges, whereabouts, or legal status.
