Report: Pentagon Undercounted US Troop Deaths in Iran War by at Least Four

| Iran Conflict

The Washington Post reported that at least 22 US service members have died in the Middle East since the Iran war began Feb 28 — four more than the 18 fatalities listed in the Pentagon's public Defense Casualty Analysis System — citing five US officials familiar with internal accounting (a sixth put the figure at 23). Officials said not all of the additional deaths were combat-related but involved personnel deployed to the theater during the conflict. The report reopens a dispute over Pentagon casualty transparency first raised by The Intercept in April.
