Trump Says He'll Declare Strait of Hormuz US Territory After 'Defeating' Iran, Vows to 'Never Apologize' for War
Speaking at a Long Island, New York rally for Nassau County GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, President Trump said 'after we finish defeating Iran, which is being very badly defeated ... pretty soon I'll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,' describing the naval blockade as 'a wall of steel' under which 'no ships get through unless we want them to.' Trump separately declared he would 'never apologize' for the war, telling the crowd 'I did the right thing' and that Americans paying more for gasoline was worth it 'so that a very evil country cannot have ... a nuclear weapon.' A senior White House official later said Trump had not discussed the territorial claim with his advisers and suggested the remark was not to be taken literally.
