Canada Sanctions Five Iranian Officials Over Strait of Hormuz Blockade

| Iran Conflict

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced sanctions on five Iranian officials — including a senior IRGC official, the head of Iran's parliamentary foreign policy and national security committee, a naval commander, and the chair of Iran's energy exporters union — for obstructing navigation rights in and around the Strait of Hormuz and undermining 'international peace, security and stability.' The sanctions freeze any Canadian assets the individuals hold and bar Canadians from dealing with them. Ottawa's notice cited roughly 1,500 vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf as of Aug 6.
