25 Pakistani Nationals, Including Fishermen, Released From Indian Jails and Repatriated via Wagah

Twenty-five Pakistani nationals — including fishermen from Karachi and Thatta who had completed prison terms after straying into Indian waters — were released from Indian jails and repatriated to Pakistan through the Wagah-Attari border on August 29, 2026. The group crossed in the afternoon after completing immigration and administrative formalities and were handed over to Pakistani authorities, with Pakistan High Commission officials present to facilitate the process. The release forms part of prisoner lists exchanged between the two countries on July 1, 2026 under the bilateral consular access arrangement, which listed 386 civilian prisoners and 53 fishermen in Indian custody; Pakistani officials renewed calls for the release of the roughly 177 Pakistani detainees still held in India. The fishermen were received by the Pakistan Fishermen's Cooperative Society on arrival.
