India 'Examining Implications' of Pakistan-Saudi-Turkey Mecca Defence Pact

At a biweekly press briefing on August 11, 2026, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal gave India's first official response to the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed August 7 in Mecca by Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The trilateral pact — which builds on Pakistan and Saudi Arabia's September 2025 Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement — commits the three countries to treat an armed attack on any one of them as an attack on all three. Jaiswal said India is 'examining its implications, both from the perspective of our national security as well as considerations of regional stability, peace and stability,' adding that India 'remains fully committed to safeguarding its national interests and will take all necessary measures in this regard.'
