J&K on High Alert as IB Warns of ISI-Backed Terror Plot Ahead of India's Independence Day

India's Intelligence Bureau issued fresh warnings on August 11, 2026 that Pakistan's ISI may attempt terror strikes around India's August 15 Independence Day, with infiltration into Jammu & Kashmir flagged as the first priority while security forces are concentrated on flag-hoisting ceremonies, alongside a parallel push to move operatives into India's northeast via the Bangladesh border. Kashmir IGP V.K. Birdi said 'multilayered security arrangements have been made across the Kashmir Valley,' with intensified checkpoints, area-domination exercises, hotel-record scrutiny, and searches of markets and other sensitive locations; Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium, the venue for J&K's Independence Day function, was placed under a multi-layered security grid. Intelligence inputs specifically flagged Lashkar-e-Taiba as likely to target security personnel, non-local laborers, or crowded public areas, following the killing of a police officer and two non-local labourers at Kulgam on July 31, plus a separate threat note targeting Kashmiri Pandits.
