NIA Chargesheets 2 in Pakistan-Linked Plot to Bomb Passenger Train, Smuggle Arms and Heroin

India's National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet before the NIA Special Court in Mohali on August 7-8, 2026 against two men — Shubham Kumar (in custody) and Jasvir Chaudhary (absconding) — over a cross-border conspiracy run by a Pakistan-based handler and associates in India to smuggle arms, explosives, and narcotics across the border. The case began in February 2026 when Amritsar's State Special Operations Cell arrested Kumar in possession of a live IED in a metallic case, a remote-control detonator, a foreign-made .30 bore pistol with 20 live cartridges, a mobile phone, and heroin; the NIA took over the probe in March. Investigators say Kumar was tasked with planting a timer-activated IED on a passenger train, with the broader plot envisaging attacks at multiple locations including Punjab and New Delhi. Both accused are charged under the UAPA, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, NDPS Act, and Railways Act; the investigation into the wider smuggling network and additional operatives continues.
