Pakistan President Zardari Demands India Reinstate Indus Waters Treaty

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari publicly called on India to immediately reinstate the Indus Waters Treaty, condemning its suspension as a 'weaponization' of shared water resources threatening the food security of millions of Pakistanis. The demand coincided with India's near-completion of the Shahpur Kandi Dam on the Ravi River, which is set to divert water flows away from Pakistan. India placed the 1960 IWT 'in abeyance' in April 2025 following the Pahalgam attack.
