India Suspends Indus Waters Treaty Following Pahalgam Attack

India announced the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty on April 24, 2025 in response to the Pahalgam attack, the most dramatic step in 65 years of bilateral water management. India also closed the Integrated Check Post at Attari-Wagah, revoked Pakistani visas, and downgraded diplomatic representation. Pakistan declared the suspension of the treaty illegal under international law.
