Lahore Declaration — India-Pakistan Peace Initiative

Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee traveled to Lahore by bus on February 20–21, 1999, meeting Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif and signing the Lahore Declaration. The declaration committed both nations to peaceful resolution of disputes, including Kashmir, through bilateral dialogue. The historic gesture raised hopes for normalization, but the Kargil War erupted just three months later.
