Pakistan Conducts Chagai Nuclear Tests
Pakistan detonated five nuclear devices at the Chagai Hills, Balochistan on May 28, 1998, followed by a sixth test on May 30. PM Nawaz Sharif declared Pakistan a nuclear state. South Asia formally became a nuclear-armed region, fundamentally altering the strategic calculus of any future India-Pakistan conflict.
