Pakistani Tribal Forces Invade Kashmir (First Kashmir War)
Thousands of Pakistani Pashtun tribal fighters (lashkars), supported by elements of the Pakistani military, invaded Kashmir from the northwest on October 22, 1947. They captured Muzaffarabad and advanced toward Srinagar. The invasion triggered the Maharaja's accession to India and the first of four major India-Pakistan wars.
