ICE Agents Baton-Charge Protesters After 40-Hour Stakeout in Frederick, Maryland Neighborhood
ICE agents staked out the Taskers Chance neighborhood of Frederick, Maryland starting at 6 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a man fled a traffic stop, remaining on scene for about 40 hours. Protesters gathered the same day and, by Friday evening, September 4, had linked arms to form a 'human barrier' in the street in front of the house under surveillance. At about 9:30 p.m. Friday, agents charged the barrier and struck residents and protesters with batons; video captured an agent pointing a firearm at people on the ground and agents telling residents 'We see you,' 'we know where you live,' and 'we have your license plate.' City Council President César Díaz said a couple of people were injured, though the severity was unclear; no arrests were reported and agents left the neighborhood soon after. Rep. April McClain Delaney, whose district includes Frederick, said she was 'especially disturbed by reports that ICE agents used force against Frederick residents,' and local officials, including Díaz, publicly asked whether the confrontation represented 'the new normal.'
