Haiti Electoral Council Publishes Final List of Approved Parties for August 2026 Elections

| Haiti

Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) was scheduled to publish on March 26, 2026 its final list of political parties and coalitions authorized to participate in the country's first general election in a decade. A record 320 political parties had registered during the March 2–12 registration window, surpassing all previous cycles. Elections are planned in two rounds on August 30 and December 6, 2026, covering the presidency, all Senate and Chamber of Deputies seats, and local offices. UN Special Adviser William O'Neill described the broad registration as 'a moment of hope and progress for the Haitian people.' Despite the milestone, gangs control roughly 90% of Port-au-Prince and 1.4 million people remain displaced, posing severe obstacles to holding credible votes. Police Director General André Jonas Vladimir Paraison said nearly 900 new police recruits were deployed and a security plan for elections is being drafted.
