Former State Security Service Chief Grigol Liluashvili Sentenced to 13 Years for Bribery

The Tbilisi City Court, Judge Nino Tarashvili presiding, sentenced Grigol Liluashvili -- who led the State Security Service (SSSG) from 2019 until his April 2025 resignation -- to 13 years in prison on four bribery counts, including allegedly accepting $1 million from a Turkish investor for wind-power lobbying, GEL 1.5 million from a businessman for gasification-tender assistance, and roughly $1.365 million for protecting scam call-center networks. Liluashvili, arrested in December 2025 amid raids on properties tied to a two-time former prime minister and an ex-prosecutor general, is the latest senior figure once close to Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili to be prosecuted in an internal purge that has also snared former prime minister Irakli Garibashvili.
