Georgian Dream Adds Gakharia's For Georgia to Constitutional Court Party-Ban Lawsuit

Georgian Dream parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia announced the ruling party will ask the Constitutional Court to add the opposition For Georgia party -- founded by former prime minister Giorgi Gakharia -- to its lawsuit seeking to ban opposition parties, citing the party's 'gross and brazen non-recognition of the constitutional order.' The suit, filed in November 2025 against United National Movement, Lelo/Strong Georgia and Ahali/Coalition for Change and expanded to add the Federalists in April 2026, now targets all five parties that cleared the threshold in the disputed 2024 election or their successor coalitions. Former ombudsperson Nino Lomjaria said Georgian Dream could keep adding parties to reset the Constitutional Court's nine-month review clock 'to postpone the consideration of a lawsuit 200 times,' and Gakharia called the move 'another step for the Ivanishvili regime to officially establish authoritarian rule.'
