Israeli Strikes Kill Youssef al-Zaim and Mohammad al-Bayouk; IDF Discloses Two More Hamas Operatives Killed

| Gaza War

On September 17, 2026, an Israeli drone strike killed Youssef al-Zaim near the 17th Roundabout in western Gaza City, and a separate strike killed Mohammad Nasser Suleiman al-Bayouk in the Nahr al-Bared area east of the slaughterhouse in Khan Younis. A drone strike on the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood, west of Gaza City, wounded around 10 people, and a strike hit the roof of Ad-Daraj School in central Gaza City, which shelters displaced families, wounding two more. Sa'id Barham died of wounds sustained in an earlier Israeli strike. Separately, the IDF announced it had killed two more Hamas operatives it said were rebuilding the group's military capabilities in violation of the ceasefire: Muhammad Jamal Ahmad Eid, a Nukhba Force member who took part in the October 7, 2023 attack, in a strike on the Bureij refugee camp; and Saleh Ziad Ibrahim Miqdad, a platoon commander in Hamas's naval force, in Gaza City. Israeli artillery also shelled areas north of Bureij and Khan Younis, and naval vessels fired toward fishermen off the Rafah coast. Gaza's Health Ministry reported 5 people killed and 28 wounded strip-wide in the preceding 24 hours; the ceasefire-period toll reached 1,386 killed and 4,784 wounded since the October 2025 truce — the 343rd consecutive day of reported ceasefire violations.
