Kushner Meets Sisi and Hamas Chief Al-Hayya in El-Alamein to Press Disarmament Roadmap
US envoy Jared Kushner met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in El-Alamein on August 16, 2026 to discuss ceasefire implementation, then held talks with Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya alongside Board of Peace representatives Nickolay Mladenov and Tony Blair, plus Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish officials. Kushner pushed Hamas to begin disarming despite Prime Minister Netanyahu's public rejection of the 15-point roadmap, and urged the group to halt public displays of armed fighters and hand administrative authority to the Palestinian National Committee for Gaza Administration (NCAG). Hamas indicated it would only proceed with disarmament if Israel first upheld its own ceasefire commitments. A Board of Peace source said the first weapons handover to the NCAG is unlikely before year-end, as the planned International Stabilization Force remains in early training. Separately, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia issued a joint statement blaming Israel for 'disrupting peace efforts in Gaza' and calling on the Board of Peace to enforce Israeli compliance with the plan.
