IDF Tank Struck by Hamas Explosive Device Near Yellow Line; Two Operatives Killed Crossing Boundary
The IDF said an Israeli tank operating with the Givati Brigade in the southern Gaza Strip was struck by a Hamas-planted explosive device near the 'Yellow Line' — the boundary between Israeli- and Hamas-controlled areas — on August 15, 2026, with no soldiers injured. In a separate incident the same day, Paratroopers Brigade soldiers spotted two operatives who crossed the Yellow Line in what the IDF said was an attempt to sabotage weapons belonging to Israeli troops; the soldiers opened fire and killed both. The military characterized both incidents as 'grave' violations of the October 2025 ceasefire and said it intended to respond. The incidents came as Hamas chief Khalil al-Hayya traveled to Cairo for talks with Egyptian intelligence ahead of US envoy Jared Kushner's planned regional visit to advance the stalled Gaza disarmament roadmap.
