Israel Strikes Hamas Military Wing Chief Mohammed Odeh on Eid Eve — Killed Alongside Family in Gaza City
On the eve of Eid al-Adha (May 26, 2026 / Day 958), Israel struck a residential building in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, targeting Mohammed Odeh — the newly appointed commander of Hamas's Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, who had assumed the role just 11 days after his predecessor Izz al-Din al-Haddad was killed on May 16. The strike killed Odeh, his wife, his son, and his daughter — a total of 5 dead including 4 members of the Odeh family. At least 12 people were injured. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz publicly announced the targeting, calling Odeh 'one of the architects of the October 7 massacre' and noting this was the fourth time Israel had killed the head of Hamas's military wing since that day. Prime Minister Netanyahu also confirmed the strike. The operation was conducted by the IDF and Shin Bet in coordination. Odeh had previously served as a senior Hamas intelligence officer. His killing came as Gazans were marking the start of Eid, one of Islam's most important holidays.
