Gaza Encircled by Famine: Only 44% of Daily Flour Needs Reaching Territory; Medicine Critically Low
A May 25, 2026 report documented Gaza's deepening food and medicine crisis on Day 957: the territory requires approximately 450 tonnes of flour per day but is receiving only about 200 tonnes, causing bakeries to shut down and long queues to form with little or no bread. Medicine stocks are critically low across all hospitals in Gaza, endangering thousands of patients. Restrictions on generators, engine oil, and spare parts are causing system failures in health, sanitation, and debris removal infrastructure. UN OCHA's May 15 Humanitarian Situation Report documented that only 69% of aid supplies from Egypt were successfully offloaded in the first 11 days of May 2026. The 111 community kitchens produce 1.1 million meals per day — below the 1.25 million needed. The 2026 UN Humanitarian Flash Appeal of $4.1 billion remains only 12% funded ($540M received), with $3.6 billion still unmet. UNRWA has been blocked by Israeli authorities from directly bringing personnel and aid into the Gaza Strip since March 2025.
