Hamas–BoP Negotiations Reach Impasse in Cairo Over Disarmament; UN Envoy Warns of 'Dangerous Status Quo'

Ceasefire negotiations between Hamas's delegation and the Board of Peace (BoP) delegation led by UN High Representative Nickolay Mladenov reached an impasse in Cairo around May 21, 2026. Hamas continued to reject total disarmament demands, insisting the IDF pull back from the Yellow Line as a precondition for any demilitarization discussions.
