Six Months After Ceasefire Announcement: OHCHR Says 784+ Palestinians Killed, Gaza Still Unsafe

| Gaza War

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued a statement marking approximately six months since the October 10, 2025 ceasefire announcement, declaring that 'Palestinians across Gaza remain unsafe.' At least 784 Palestinians have been killed and 2,214 wounded since the ceasefire took effect — an average of more than four people killed per day. Türk noted that 'incidents of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces while walking, driving, or standing outside are recorded nearly every day,' and that movement itself has become 'a life-threatening activity.' Separately, a UN Women April 2026 report documented that more than 38,000 women and girls were killed in Gaza between October 2023 and December 2025 — an average of 47 per day. The 2026 Flash Appeal for Gaza remains only 9.7% funded at $4.1 billion requested, and aid is reaching only 37% of required levels. The EU-UN joint reconstruction assessment released April 21 found that Gaza needs $71.4 billion over the next decade, with human development set back 77 years.
