ICJ Orders Provisional Measures — Genocide Convention Applies
The ICJ unanimously rules it has jurisdiction over the case and issues provisional measures. The court orders Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent acts that could fall under the Genocide Convention, ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, preserve evidence, and report to the court within one month. The court stops short of ordering a ceasefire but the ruling is widely seen as a significant rebuke of Israeli conduct.
