ALPS Water Discharge Briefly Suspended After Lightning-Related Power Blip
TEPCO's ALPS-treated water dilution/discharge facility automatically suspended operations at approximately 5:07 p.m. on June 13, 2026, after a presumed lightning strike caused a momentary interruption to a transmission line. The resulting brief drop in seawater transfer pump flow triggered an emergency isolation valve to close as designed. TEPCO confirmed no equipment malfunction and no ALPS-treated water outside specification was released; discharge resumed the same evening at approximately 10:34 p.m. after inspections were completed. TEPCO said the incident had no impact on the surrounding environment.
