TEPCO Begins 20th Round of ALPS-Treated Water Discharge (FY2026 Second Batch)

| Fukushima

TEPCO commenced the 20th batch of ALPS-treated water ocean discharge on June 1, 2026, the second release of the FY2026 program. The IAEA independently sampled the batch before release through the undersea tunnel and confirmed tritium concentrations were far below Japan's 1,500 Bq/L operational limit and consistent with international safety standards. Cumulative discharge since the program began in August 2023 has now reached roughly 149,000 m³ across 20 batches.
