First-Ever EU-Armenia Bilateral Summit — Yerevan Marks Armenia's European Pivot
On the margins of the EPC Summit, EU Council President António Costa and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held the first-ever bilateral EU-Armenia Summit with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan. The summit, confirmed in March 2026, reflected Armenia's strategic reorientation toward Europe following the 2020 and 2023 Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts and the withdrawal of Russian security guarantees. The joint statement covered connectivity (new transit corridors), energy (Armenian renewable exports to Europe), digital cooperation, and security assistance. The EU committed to an enhanced Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) upgrade and increased financial support under the Global Gateway initiative. The summit marks the most concrete step yet in Armenia's post-CSTO European realignment.
