8th European Political Community Summit Convenes in Yerevan — Canadian PM Joins for First Time
Leaders from 47 European countries and beyond convened in Yerevan, Armenia for the 8th European Political Community (EPC) summit under the motto 'Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe.' The summit addressed democratic resilience, infrastructure connectivity, and energy security. In a historic first, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney attended as an observer — the first non-European leader to participate in an EPC gathering — reflecting transatlantic realignment driven by US isolationism under President Trump. Azerbaijan's President Aliyev participated virtually amid ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan normalisation. The EPC format, which operates without binding written outcomes, served as an informal forum for heads of government from EU members and non-members, including UK Prime Minister and Balkan leaders. The next EPC summit was confirmed for Ireland in November 2026.
