Treaty of Rome — EEC and Euratom Founded
The six ECSC members signed two treaties in Rome: the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). The EEC aimed to create a common market and customs union. This moment is widely regarded as the foundational act of what would become the European Union.
