Sisi Meets Kushner in El Alamein as Hamas Delegation Holds Parallel Cairo Talks on Gaza Ceasefire

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Jared Kushner, US President Trump's son-in-law and a member of the Gaza Board of Peace, in New Alamein on August 16, 2026, in the presence of Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and General Intelligence Service chief Hassan Rashad. The two sides stressed the need for all parties to fulfill their obligations under the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached at the October 2025 Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit, amid mounting disagreement over the deal's second phase after Israel rejected aspects of the 15-point roadmap and linked withdrawal to Hamas disarmament. Kushner conveyed greetings from Trump and praised Egypt as a key US partner in the region. In parallel, a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya met separately with Rashad in Cairo the same day to discuss consolidating the ceasefire and briefing mediators on alleged Israeli violations of the roadmap.
