Egypt Joins Seven-Nation Statement Condemning Israeli Rejection of Gaza Roadmap
Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty joined counterparts from the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia in a joint statement issued August 16, 2026 condemning Israel's declared rejection of the roadmap to complete implementation of the US-backed Comprehensive Plan to end the Gaza conflict, endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, as well as Israel's rejection of Palestinian statehood. The eight ministers said the roadmap — the product of extensive mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, the US, and the Board of Peace — was accepted by Palestinian factions and covers weapons decommissioning, Israeli force withdrawal, deployment of an International Stabilization Force, and transfer of administrative authority to a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. The statement said Israel's rejection amounts to a repudiation of the plan and placed responsibility for obstructing peace on Israel, while calling for continued US engagement to enforce compliance.
