Egypt Intensifies Iran Mediation; Abdelatty Contacts Iranian FM Araghchi and Qatari Premier
Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as part of an intensive week of regional diplomacy around the US-Iran nuclear negotiations. Abdelatty also met in Cairo with Algeria's FM Ahmed Attaf and Tunisia's FM Mohamed Ali Nafti, building North African and Arab consensus around the terms of a potential US-Iran agreement. Egypt has emerged throughout the negotiation period as a bridge between Western demands and Middle Eastern and Iranian regional concerns — a role that reflects the evolution of Cairo's post-2024 foreign policy from reactive mediation to proactive regional architecture-building.
