President Sisi Leads Eid Al-Adha Prayers at New Administrative Capital; Holiday Runs May 27–29
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi performed Eid Al-Adha prayers at Al-Rahman Al-Rahim Mosque in the New Administrative Capital alongside senior state officials, including Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, Minister of Defense Ashraf Salem Zaher, and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ahmed Khalifa. Eid Al-Adha 2026 in Egypt fell on May 27 — the first day of the feast — with the official public holiday running May 27-29. The occasion marked Sisi's continued symbolic use of the New Administrative Capital as the political center of his presidency; major state ceremonies including Eid prayers have been held at its flagship mosque since the capital began hosting official functions. Eid Al-Adha marks the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage season, an occasion of particular religious and national significance for Egypt, home to al-Azhar University — Islam's oldest continuous institution of learning.
