ECDC Tracker Shows DRC Ebola Toll at 6,604 Cases, 3,175 Deaths as of 5 September

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control's Ebola outbreak tracker, updated 6 September 2026 with data through 5 September, recorded 6,604 confirmed cases and 3,175 deaths in DRC — a rise of 82 confirmed cases and 41 deaths since the prior report, with new cases concentrated in Ituri (49), North Kivu (31) and Haut-Uélé (2). Ituri province remained the epicenter with 5,326 cases and 2,398 deaths across 28 of 36 health zones, while North Kivu recorded roughly 1,000 cases and 659 deaths across 16 of 34 health zones — a fatality rate well above the national crude average. As of the update, 1,548 patients had recovered and 851 remained hospitalized in isolation, with 85.7% of identified contacts under active follow-up nationally, though provincial coverage varied sharply: Ituri (89.8%) and the national rate held just above the 85% operational threshold, while North Kivu (83.3%), Tshopo (73.9%), Haut-Uélé (72.1%) and Bas-Uélé (69.7%) all lagged behind it. The ECDC-aggregated total ran slightly ahead of DRC's National Institute of Public Health (INSP) daily figure for the same period (6,522 cases / 3,134 deaths), reflecting the two agencies' differing reporting cutoffs and reconciliation lag.
