Ebola Transit Centre Burns Down at Kigonze Camp in Ituri

A critical Ebola transit centre burned down on the evening of Sept 30, 2026 at Kigonze camp in Ituri, forcing the camp to be abandoned. The camp sheltered about 19,000 displaced people. The UN Ebola response coordinator said losing a centre means losing capacity and investment. DRC reported 8,116 confirmed cases and 3,924 deaths as of Sept 28 (WHO).
