Security Council Meets on DRC as Peace Deals Fail to Halt Fighting

The UN Security Council met on Sept 29, 2026 on the DRC, where clashes between government forces and M23 continue in the east despite a series of peace agreements. Ambassadors focused on ceasefire monitoring, rising DRC-Rwanda tensions, allegations of over 300 deaths in areas controlled by Rwandan forces and M23 (which Rwanda denies), and the worst Ebola outbreak on record (3,901 deaths as of Sept 26). MONUSCO's mandate is up for renewal in December.
