UN Joint Human Rights Office Documents Nearly 3,000 Rights Violations in DRC in First Half of 2026

The UN Joint Human Rights Office (BCNUDH) reported Sept 23, 2026 that it documented 2,996 human rights violations affecting 6,189 victims across the DRC between January and June 2026, a 10% decline from the previous semester. Of these, 2,607 violations affecting 5,032 victims were recorded in conflict-affected provinces, concentrated in North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri. ADF was held responsible for 230 violations affecting 1,064 victims. BCNUDH also documented 267 cases of conflict-related sexual violence affecting 401 victims. The office cautioned that the numerical decline does not necessarily indicate an improving situation, citing continued difficulty accessing and documenting abuses in active conflict zones, along with victims' restricted access to medical care and justice.
