Violent Clashes Continue Between AFC/M23 and FARDC-Wazalendo Around Mitimingi and Ngungu in Masisi

Heavy and light weapons fire was reported Tuesday, Sept 22, 2026 through 9:00 AM local time around Mitimingi hill in the Kirambo locality of Masisi's Katoyi sector, North Kivu, as AFC/M23 clashed with FARDC forces backed by Wazalendo militias. Fighting was also signalled on the Ngungu axis and around Miano and villages near Remeka in the Ufamandu I grouping (Bahunde chiefdom). Wazalendo forces had spent the two preceding days attempting to retake full control of Mitimingi. The clashes follow a run of village recaptures the previous week by FARDC-Wazalendo along the Ngungu axis (Miko, Remeka, Kaleta, Kasake) and in Katoyi sector (Mutongo, Katoyi-Centre, Ngululu), underscoring how contested the wider Masisi front line remains. No casualty figures were available and neither FARDC nor AFC/M23 issued an official statement.
