United States Breaks Diplomatic Relations

President Eisenhower severed diplomatic relations with Cuba after Castro demanded the US Embassy reduce its staff to 11 people. The break ended 60 years of formal diplomatic ties and left the Swiss Embassy representing US interests. Canada, Mexico, and most Latin American states maintained relations.
