US Imposes Partial Trade Embargo

The Eisenhower administration imposed a partial trade embargo on Cuba, banning exports of all goods except food and medicine. Cuba had already received its first Soviet arms shipment in July 1960. The embargo set the stage for the full trade rupture that would define US-Cuba relations for decades.
