Batista Flees Cuba
President Fulgencio Batista fled to the Dominican Republic in the early hours of January 1, 1959, with close associates and significant personal wealth. The Rebel Army marched into Havana unopposed as jubilant crowds filled the streets. Cuba's seven-year revolutionary war was over.
