BYD Sells a Record 256,230 Battery-Electric Vehicles in a Single Month

BYD reported August 2026 sales of 440,293 new-energy vehicles (NEVs), up 17.84% year-on-year and its highest monthly total of the year, driven by a record 256,230 passenger battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) sold -- the first time the company has topped 250,000 BEVs in a single month, up 28.4% YoY and 9.9% versus July. Overseas sales hit a fresh record of 189,466 units, up 134.45% YoY and now 43% of total NEV volume, even as domestic China sales fell 14.34% YoY to 250,827 units. BEVs made up 59.1% of passenger NEV sales, up from 53.7% a year earlier, reflecting a broader shift toward fully electric models as the world's largest EV maker leans on overseas demand to offset a soft domestic market.
