Norway's New-Car Market Hits 97.6% Electric as UK Notches Record 27.5% BEV Share
Norway's electric vehicle share of new car sales rose to a record 97.6% in July 2026 -- 9,379 of 9,609 new registrations -- according to the Norwegian Road Traffic Information Council (OFV), up from 97.2% a year earlier and confirming the market has essentially completed its EV transition. Separately, UK new car registrations climbed 11.7% year-on-year to 156,571 units in July 2026, the best July since 2019, with battery-electric vehicles capturing a record 27.5% market share (43,106 units, +44.5% YoY) according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Combined battery-electric and plug-in hybrid registrations reached 42.4% of the UK market, while diesel and petrol registrations fell 5.2% and 17.7% respectively.
