Huawei Unveils Kirin 9050 Pro Chip and Mate XT 2 Tri-Fold, Rolls Out HarmonyOS 7

Huawei held a launch event on the afternoon of September 7 unveiling its new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset alongside the tri-folding Mate XT 2 Ultimate smartphone and the broader Mate 90 series, its first new flagship Kirin chip introduced at a launch in six years. The Kirin 9050 Pro uses a two-layer vertical stacking architecture ("Tao Law") that raises transistor density to 238 MTr/mm² from 155 MTr/mm², hits a peak frequency of 3.1GHz, cuts high-speed on-chip network data-path area by 55%, and lifts SRAM operating frequency more than 40%. Huawei said overall Mate XT 2 device performance improved 42% versus the prior-generation Mate XT, with single-core performance up 24% and multi-core up 52%. The launch doubled as the debut of HarmonyOS 7, which Huawei paired with the new Ark Engine and said extends battery life by an additional 36 minutes on the new hardware. The Mate XT 2 Ultimate starts at RMB 19,999 (~$2,980), with sales beginning September 12.
