Thousands of Students March Against Budget Cuts and Foro Madrid, Carabineros Repress Authorized Protest

More than 5,000 students marched down the Alameda in Santiago on September 3–4, called by the Asamblea Coordinadora de Estudiantes Secundarios (ACES) alongside Red Solidaridad Estudiantil, Coordinadora Feminista 8M and Confech, denouncing budget cuts to education and school meals, the rising cost of living, and Kast's hardline security policy, while also rejecting the concurrent Foro Madrid far-right summit. Carabineros used water cannon and tear gas to break up the march near the GAM cultural center and Cerro Santa Lucía; organizers said the mobilization had been authorized and that police intervened without the warning required to let the march finish its agreed route. ACES said mobilizations would continue into October, when the 2027 Budget debate returns education financing to the agenda.
