Orlando Letelier Killed by DINA Car Bomb in Washington DC

Orlando Letelier, Allende's Foreign Minister and leading exile opposition figure, is killed by a DINA car bomb on Sheridan Circle in Washington DC. His American colleague Ronni Moffitt also dies; her husband Michael Moffitt survives. It is the only state-sponsored assassination on American soil in modern history. DINA agent Michael Townley plants the bomb. Henry Kissinger had received advance warning of the Condor assassination program but did not warn targets.
