DINA Shoots Chilean Christian Democrat Leader in Rome
Former Chilean Vice President Bernardo Leighton and his wife Ana Fresno are shot on a Rome street by Stefano Delle Chiaie, an Italian neo-fascist working with DINA. Both survive but are permanently disabled. The attack is part of DINA's international assassination program targeting prominent Chilean exiles. It demonstrates the reach of Pinochet's intelligence services into Western Europe.
