General Prats and Wife Assassinated in Buenos Aires by DINA
Former Army Commander-in-Chief General Carlos Prats and his wife Sofía Cuthbert are killed in Buenos Aires by a DINA car bomb. Prats had fled Chile after his forced resignation and was writing memoirs critical of Pinochet. The assassination is part of DINA's cross-border assassination program, which later becomes formalized as Operation Condor. DINA agent Michael Townley is later convicted; Manuel Contreras is also convicted in Chile in 2000.
